Last night, terrible news broke as the wrestling industry learned of the tragic passing of Jamin Pugh, better known to wrestling fans as Jay Briscoe.
Jay was one-half of the current Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions alongside his brother Mark.
Jamin died at the young age of 38 in a car accident. His two young daughters were also seriously injured in the accident as revealed by their mother on Facebook.
Jay Briscoe competed on the very first Ring of Honor show and were mainstays with the promotion throughout its existence. Jay and Mark held the ROH Tag Team Championship 13 times and were in the first class of ROH Hall of Fame inductees. Jay Briscoe also held the ROH World Championship two times.
Together with Mark, The Briscoes won tag team gold in many promotions including Impact Wrestling, GCW and CZW.
Smith’s Sentiment: Terribly tragic news that first broke online last night when Tony Khan tweeted it. I first heard the news when the commentators on WWE NXT announced that Jay Briscoe had passed away, which was nice for WWE to do considering Jay Briscoe never wrestled for them. Obviously, many of the WWE and NXT superstars shared a lockerroom with The Briscoes in ROH, Impact or elsewhere over the years.
My prayers are with his family, and especially his daughters Gracie and Jayleigh. Please pray for Gracie, that her surgery goes well and that she regains movement in her legs.
The Briscoes deserved a bigger stage as they were a fantastic tag team, and Jay a great wrestler. By all accounts, he was a great man and devoted and loving father and husband as well. Rest in Peace Jamin.
We should also mention that the driver of the other car involved in the accident, 27-year-old Lillyanne Ternahan, also passed away. Condolences to her family as well.
