WWE has announced new/updated commentary teams for RAW, NXT, Smackdown and Premium Live Events. The changes go into effect with tomorrow’s season premiere of Friday Night Smackdown.

On Smackdown, Michael Cole remains on play-by-play and will now be joined by Wade Barrett on color commentary. Samantha Irving remains the ring announcer, and Kayla Braxton and Megan Morant will handle backstage interviews.

Monday Night RAW gets a new play-by-play guy in former backstage interviewer Kevin Patrick. He’ll be joined by Corey Graves remaining as the color commentator. Mike Rome will still be handling ring announcing duties. Byron Saxton will handle backstage interviews alongside a returning Cathy Kelly.

On NXT, Vic Joseph remains the play-by-play man and will be joined by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T making his return to color commentary. Alicia Taylor and McKenzie Mitchell retain their respective roles as ring announcer and backstage interviewer.

Finally, Premium Live Events will just have one booth going forward. The PLE team will be comprised of Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

WWE noted that Pat McAfee would return to commentary once his duties with ESPN College GameDay are over with.

Smith’s Sentiment: I thought Jimmy Smith did a pretty good on RAW, but it is what it is. They made no mention of Sarah Schreiber, who was a backstage interviewer on RAW, but I hope she isn’t gone too. The changes look good though, and I’m curious to see how well Kevin Patrick does. He was great as a backstage interviewer, and I think he’ll probably be great on commentary too. Will be great to see Cathy Kelly again as well.

Also really like only having one commentary team for Premium Live Events as opposed to having brand specific teams. I imagine Pat McAfee will return to Smackdown, which would probably send Wade Barrett back to NXT. Hopefully Pat is on the PLE’s as well when he returns.
