Pat McAfee Joins College Gameday, On Hiatus from Smackdown

Pat McAfee

Pat McAfee has joined ESPN’s College Gameday program as a full-time member starting this Saturday in Austin, TX.

As a result, McAfee will temporarily have to step aside as color commentator for WWE Friday Night Smackdown.

On his Pat McAfee show, Pat reveals that his initial thought was to do both, but WWE management wouldn’t allow it because it wouldn’t be good for his health or family.

So, for the remainder of the college football season at least, Pat McAfee will not be on Smackdown.

Smith’s Sentiment: Good for Pat, and it’s certainly a great opportunity. Of course, it sucks that he won’t be on WWE TV for at least the next several months, but WWE is certainly right that travelling across the country from a night show to an early morning show wouldn’t be good for his health. The good news is that he’ll at least be back. Whoever WWE gets to be on commentary on Friday nights in the meantime will have some big shoes to fill.
