Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype released on PS3 all the way back in May 2010, and came to PS Vita in March 2015. Now it has made its way to PS4 (and via backwards compatability PS5) in the form of the Definitive Edition.
If you played the 2010 hit, then you’ll probably like taking it for another spin. Already a game that looked good, this Definitive Edition looks and players better than ever at 60 frames per second and virtually no load times.

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype Definitive Edition (PS4)
Developer: SideQuest Studios
Publisher: EastAsiaSoft
Released: November 4, 2020
ESRB Rating: E – Everyone
MSRP: $9.99
When it first released, Soldner-X 2 was a great side-scrolling shoot em up with some addictive arcade gameplay. It still is, only made better because of the aforementioned graphics and framerate making for a smooth and pleasant bullet-hell arcade romp.
As you would expect from something called the Definitive Edition, it is sporting all of the DLC for the first game. It also has replay sharing, online leaderboards, and a new gallery mode. Weapons and boss effects have been updated and enhanced, and the difficulties have been re-balanced.
If you just want to see the credits roll, it won’t take you too long. The game has 5 stages until you see the credits. But that’s really just the beginning.
Each stage has golden keys you need to get to unlock additional stages. In total, there are 10 stages each with its own unique boss at the end.
There are weapons, ships and bonuses to unlock, Challenges to conquer, trophies with a platinum to acquire and so forth.
As an arcade game, the big replayability feature for Soldner if you to keep playing after completing the challenges and unlocking everything is the online leaderboard. Can you improve your score and climb the ranks, and do so on increasing difficulty modes?
If you enjoyed it on either PS3 or PS Vita, then you will absolutely love it on PS4 (or PS5) if you decide to buy it again. I would say it’s worth $10, easily, for anyone who enjoys good old-fashioned arcade shoot em up’s. If you never played it and enjoy the genre, then this is a definite no-brainer.
Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype Definitive Edition gets a four out of five: GREAT.
