Fool's Gold Review

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days pair, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, team up again in this romantic-comedy. This time around, the duo play a divorced couple out on one last quest to find treasure buried at sea since 1715.

McConaughey portrays Ben Finnegan, a child-at-heart surfer who has an obsession with finding the 18th century treasure. Hudson stars as his ex-wife, Tess Finnegan, who wants to move on with and rebuild her life. Tess takes a job working on a yacht, owned by a billionaire named Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland).

Ben believes he has found a clue that will lead him to the long lost treasure, so he boards the yacht and convinces Honeycutt and Honeycutt’s daughter Gemma (Alexis Dziena) to help him hunt down the treasure, which drags Tess along the way of humorous adventure. Of course, as always the case in films like this, someone else is on the quest for the lost treasure… Ben’s former mentor, Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone).

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how this movie ends, as it’s pretty predictable. Nevertheless, this is quite an enjoyable film that surpasses the duo’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days outing. McConaughey and Hudson have a nice chemistry and work very well together, they should certainly make another movie or two together.

Hudson is great in her performance, as she usually is in these kind of movies. And she is hot as hell in the film, giving the guys something to look at while the chicks oogle McConaughey.

It’s not a fantastic, award-winning film -although it wasn’t made to be- but it is fun and enjoyable flick that is definitely worth a watch. And of course if you’re a fan of either the duo (and I am), you’ll want to add this to your Blu-ray/DVD collection (although it should already be there), as it’s definitely worthy of repeat watching’s.

Fool’s Gold gets a three out of five: GOOD.
